EXPERIENCES OF THREE YEARS OF OIL TRANSPORTATION IN THE RUSSIAN ARCTIC WITH A WESTERN FLEET

A joint venture between Russian and Finnish companies now has three years' successful experience of oil transportation along the Northern Sea Route. This paper describes the operational achievements such as the first export loads from Western Siberia, winter export from the Yamal Peninsula and the first foreign tanker sailing through the whole North East passage. This experience is used for the design of future tankers for these areas.
