The use of modern welding techniques has been established for many years as a means of combating wear, erosion and increasing the service life expectancy of many engineering components. The use of stainless steel welding materials is often critical to the success of any repair as either a build up of material or as the corrosion resistant surface itself. Many stainless steel users make substantial cost savings by repairing rather than replacing with new. Repair also impacts on inventory stock and can often lead to an increase in service life. This article discusses the technical issues involved.
