STRUCTURAL DESIGN OF LPG FSO

The world's first LPG FSO (floating storage and offloading unit) uses the IHI SPB (Self-supporting Prismatic shape IMO type B) tank system. The structural design for North Atlantic wave conditions was carried out based on the most advanced SPB analysis technology. Accurate dynamic load analysis and fatigue strength evaluation taking account of the effects of fabrication tolerance and weld bead shape have achieved, high safety and reliability of the structural design for tank, hull and support construction. The LPG FSO is now under construction at the IHI Aichi Works and will be delivered in October 1996.
