PREVENTING THE POTENTIAL DANGERS OF OIL MIST

The problems of oil mist accumulation in the crankcases of diesel engines and the effects of an uncontained explosion resulting from this mist contacting a 'hot spot' are well known. The article describes explosion relief valves which protect engine air suction ducts from these hazards and a detector that warns of oil mist build up in ships' engine rooms and other machinery spaces.
