OPTIMIZATION OF CORRUGATED TANKER BULKHEAD STRUCTURAL DESIGN BY GENETIC ALGORITHM

The authors apply the generic algorithm to study the minimum weight problem of a corrugated tanker bulkhead structure with nine design parameters and discuss its speed of convergence through numerical experiments. From an analysis of the results the authors recommend the genetic algorithm in optimization design of structures with a large number of discrete design parameters. This method shows its capability to give considerably accurate solutions and is very efficient in searching the optimum solution along the boundary.
