WAVE MAKING AND WAVE RESISTANCE OF CONVENTIONAL HULL FORMS

The potential flow model is applied to the numerical simulation of the wave pattern around conventional hull forms, featuring transom sterns and bulbous bows. The wave resistance is evaluated both by pressure integration over the hull and by the far-field transversal-cut analysis. The application of the method to transom sterns is achieved by means of new boundary conditions that enforce the tangency of the free surface to the stern profile. The numerical results are compared to experimental data.
