CROSSING TRAFFIC SEPARATION SCHEMES AT AN OBLIQUE ANGLE

The paper discusses the possibility of releasing a vessel from the obligation of crossing traffic separation schemes at a right angle. Crossing traffic separation schemes are considered on the assumption of uniform area distribution of vessels in the area of navigation and given area distribution with a definite number of vessels. Based on an analysis of various navigational situations a characteristic warning function of increased collision danger during traffic separation schemes crossing is suggested. Departing from the generally accepted rules of collision prevention at sea, the possibility of waving the obligation of right angle crossing is defined as an addition to the existing system bo be applied to technically and organizationally equipped areas.
