DESIGN OF THE JUDY STEEL PILED JACKET STRUCTURE

The Judy steel piled jacket structure has been lift installed over a pre-drilled template, located in Block 30/7A in the UK sector of the North Sea. The steel piled structure weighting approximately 7800t, is located in 75m of water, and supports an operating topsides load of around 19 000t. This structure is considered to be the latest in a long development of steel piled jacket designs for the North Sea. This paper describes the design and engineering of the Judy steel piled jacket structure for all phases of construction, transportation, installation and in-place operation. Novel features of the design are explained, together with recommendations that should be incorporated in any future designs.
