MARPOL: WASTE RECEPTION FACILITIES IN THE UK
If waste is not to be dumped at sea, then there must be facilities to receive it in its appropriate categories on land. This was recognised by placing an obligation on ports to ensure that the facilities are provided. This article discusses ways of ensuring adequate provision and the need to raise awareness of the obligation placed both on ships' masters and the ports themselves. It concentrates on practice in the UK, while acknowledging that circumstances differ widely throughout the world.
