INNOVATIVE BANK LINE CONVERSIONS OF FORMER RUSSIAN ARCTIC CARGO SHIPS

Four SA-15 class Russian multipurpose cargo ships acquired by Andrew Weir Shipping (Bank Line) have been converted at Cammell Laird and Tyne Tees Dockyard in the UK. Modifications principally involved converting existing tanks and cargo spaces for the carriage of bulk cargo and vegetable oils, together with subdivision of the existing cargo holds and tweendecks by additional bulkheads. The most interesting element of these conversions concerns the alterations designed for improving performance; a new bulbous bow and replacement cp propeller blades have given all four ships a new dimension.
