EFFECTS OF WATER ADDITION INTO AIR OR FUEL ON FLAME STRUCTURE, SOOT AND NOX FORMATION/DECOMPOSITION IN DIFFUSION FLAMES - NUMERICAL SIMULATION

The relationship between soot and NOx exhaust characteristics are important problems which oppose each other. It is difficult to simultaneously reduce these components. Adding water into the flame is the most effective method to achieve this. The theoretical prediction of the local soot and NOx concentrations together with the flame structure are required to obtain a better understanding of the local conditions for control of soot and NOx formation in the flames. In this study, the method of adding water is achieved by high humidity in the combustion air and the addition into fuel, the detailed characteristics for soot and NOx reduction are investigated based on the influence of the gas temperature, various species and local equivalence ratio by the addition of water.
