EXCHANGE OF MODELLING DATA OF SHIP HULLS USING THE STEP STANDARDS

Exchange of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) data among heterogeneous CAD systems is difficult because the systems involved are different in their graphic functionalities. To exchange not only graphics data but also production information, a new standard for the neutral representation of product model data is being developed by the ISO, STEP (Standard for the Transfer and Exchange of Product model data, ISO 10303). An attempt has been made to exchange data between different CAD systems for shipbuilding using the STEP standards. An interface between the ship hull design system "AutoDef" and the outfitting design system "CADDS" is implemented using the STEP standards.
