THE US NAVY'S INTEGRATED POWER PROJECT FOR THE ELECTRIC SHIP

An integrated power system (IPS) is being designed for the US Navy of the future to provide an affordable, flexible ship's electric power and propulsion system aimed to reduce acquisition and life cycle costs while maintaining performance. IPS fully integrates the entire ship's power and propulsion requirements. Common prime movers generate electricity both for propulsion and ship service power. These are integrated with a standard monitor and control system.
