APPLICATIONS OF SIMULATION TECHNIQUES IN SHIP HANDLING

The paper discusses the latest research and development work in Finland directed to the new advanced and dedicated control systems of ships. New training systems and methodology has been developed for the newest generation of large cruise ferries. A special emphasis has been placed on the possibilities of using simulation technology both ashore and onboard the vessels. Important developments in this area are the one work station simulation program DTS (Desk Top Simulator), the control system simulator and the ship motion predictor display.
