THE IMPORTANCE OF SYSTEMS RELIABILITY AND AVAILABILITY FOR THE SAFE AND EFFICIENT OPERATION OF FAST FERRIES
This paper discusses some of the criteria used in the selection and configuration of automation systems for the new "High Speed Sea Service" ferries being built for Stena AB at Finnyards in Finland, the so called Stena HSS. The importance of total reliability and availability is addressed, not only with regard to the automation system itself, but also for all systems being controlled. It also gives a brief description of the integrated automation system actually selected and installed in the vessels.
