DEVELOPMENT OF AN EXPERT SYSTEM FOR ANALYSIS OF VEHICLE DYNAMICS

Reviews research that developed a knowledge-based expert system for the dynamic analysis of heavy vehicles. The work included development of overall system requirements, design, and programming standards; development of modular simulation packages for microcomputers, with user-friendly pre- and post-processors; development of an expert systems performance estimator for estimating the performance of a user-defined vehicle configuration; and software system training and demonstration. The resulting software is called HVX, consisting of modules for vehicle specification, maneuver specification, analysis, presentation of results, and performance estimation. HVX can be used in applications ranging from determination of axle loads to analysis of stability in braking and steering maneuvers. Sample screens are included for illustration.
