GROUND BIOENGINEERING TECHNIQUES FOR SLOPE PROTECTION AND EROSION CONTROL

This practical handbook, together with a companion book, Water Bioengineering Techniques, shows how soils, plants and their ecology can be used to protect and stabilise natural and formed slopes along transportation routes and locations adjacent to industrial, housing areas and leisure facilities. The book is based on research carried out in the Central Alpine region of Europe, and the handbook may not apply in all respects outside the region in which it was gathered. It does however provide a guide to the way the botanical, ecological and geotechnical knowledge and experience have been put together, classified and coordinated for others to emulate. Many examples are given of the use of live cuttings, turfing, ground stabilising and combined techniques. The care and maintenance of structures is also dealt with. A comprehensive glossary is included in the handbook.
