ADVANCING ELECTRIC VEHICLES

An account is given of the Lucas electrical vehicle research and development programme begun in 1968. Battery electric vehicles are considered to be most economically competitive with petrol-engined light commercial vehicles. The author discusses the vehicles which have been converted and operated under various conditions in particular Bedford C.F. Vans of which a luxury passenger version has also been developed. Two taxis have also been built having the same passenger capacity, turning circle and dimensions as London taxis. The author then mentions the effort being devoted to developing the back up facilities that will be necessary with an increase in the number of electric vehicles on the road. /TRRL/
