ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT FOR AIRPORTS AND AVIATION

This special report considers the trends in aviation growth or contraction to provide some perspective for the impacts of aviation. The report examines the core environmental issues affecting airports and the manufacturers of aviation equipment. Each section introduces the topic covered by describing the backgrounds of operation, their impacts, the legislation aimed at controlling these impacts and the technological solutions which each sector is applying to reduce or eliminate the impacts. Each section begins in general terms so that the concepts can apply to both civilian airports, military airports, and equipment manufacture. The areas affected include air quality, water quality, land-use, noise, resource and waste, and energy.
