STEEL STRUCTURES PAINTING COUNCIL GUIDE 6(95): GUIDE FOR CONTAINING DEBRIS GENERATED DURING PAINT REMOVAL OPERATIONS

This Guide replaces the interim SSPC-Guide 6(1) issued in March, 1992. The revised Guide introduces containment classes for three additional methods of lead paint removal and reduces the number of classes for blast cleaning from five to four. This Guide presents target air flows for reducing the dust levels in containment. The technology and understanding of ventilation and exposure are evolving rapidly. The target air flows in this Guide are intended to improve worker visibility. The Guide is organized as follows: (1) Scope; (2) Description and Definitions; (3) References; (4) Procedures; (5) Descriptions of Methods and Systems; and (6) Notes. The Procedures include the following: selecting methods of surface preparation and debris collection; specifying containment systems; selecting methods for assessing the quantity of emissions; and implementing containment project. The Descriptions of Methods and Systems include the following: methods of coating removal; methods of collecting debris; containment enclosure components; ventilation system components; methods for assessing quantity of emissions; and method of assessing efficiency of debris collection and bulk abrasive recovery.
