POTHOLE PATCHING BECOMES SUCCESS STORY FOR SOUTH CAROLINA DOT

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) can validate a study conducted by the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) that investigated the performance of various cold-mix patching materials and methods. The spray-injection method is an efficient and productive method for patching potholes as it requires only two workers: one to apply the the asphalt/aggregate mixture by hose to the pothole and one to drive the truck. This article reports on the SCDOT's experience using the spray-injection method in pothole repair and describes the advantages of the technique.
