WHO WILL DO WHAT? BORDER RESEARCH TO STREAMLINE RESPONSIBILITIES

A research study of the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) and the Center for Transportation Research identifies and compares the responsibilities of United States (U.S.) and Mexican agencies involved in transboundary shipments since expansion of the trade zone in the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). This brief article describes the current research goal to create recommendations that clarify and harmonize the jurisdictional responsibilities of 14 different Federal, state, and local agencies. The research team is developing scenarios to recommendations that will aid in expediting jurisdictional activities.
