MEXICAN TRUCK OVERLOADS: MOVING NORTH IN 1996?

This paper presents the current size and weight limits in Mexico and compares the domestic limits in both the U.S. and Mexico. It also gives some results from a Mexican truck weight survey which permits a clear estimate of overload impacts to be determined. It then reports the preliminary results of weighing northbound trucks at Laredo, Texas to determine the magnitude of overloading at the U.S.-Mexico border. It closes with recommendations for U.S. actions to prevent overloaded Mexican vehicles entering the United States.
