ACOUSTIC TRAFFIC SIGNALS FOR THE BLIND

AKOESTISCHE VERKEERSSIGNALEN VOOR BLINDEN

A useful function of traffic signals is the radiation of lights in connection with other lights with a special colour. People who are blind lack the reassurance of such traffic signals, which makes them doubtful when crossing the street. From this point of view the desire arose to provide traffic signals, in particular at pedestrian crossings, with an acoustic signal. Some of these signals are described and the advantages, together with the disadvantages (sound pollution etc.) are discussed. /TRRL/
