OPERATION OF AIRPORT SECURITY CHECKPOINTS UNDER INCREASED THREAT CONDITIONS

Concern over terrorist attacks on the commercial air transportation system in the United States is heightened during foreign and domestic crises. Government and airport officials take these threats seriously and respond with increased security measures. However, even with increased levels of security, airport officials must continue to move air passengers effectively. To understand this problem, a simulation analysis was performed on the operation of an airport security checkpoint under increased threat conditions. The findings from the simulation can be used to guide airport officials in maintaining effective passenger movement under these conditions.
