CONSTITUTIVE MODELING AND ANALYSIS OF CREEPING SLOPES. DISCUSSION AND CLOSURE

A discussion of a paper with the aforementioned title by Desai, Samtani, and Vulliet, published in this journal (Volume 121, Number 1, January 1995), is presented. The authors of the paper propose the modeling of slow and continuous movements of slopes by introducing an elastoviscoplastic constitutive law for the soil. Interface elements simulate the existing shear zone. The key points raised by Discusser Russo are: 1) use of average velocities; 2) parametric studies to examine the effect of different variables; and 3) initial stress state. Discussion is followed by closure from the authors.
