DEVELOPMENT AND DEPLOYMENT OF THE ITS (INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEMS) BY THE MINISTRY OF CONSTRUCTION
The intelligent transportation system (ITS) addressed by the Ministry of Construction is trying to integrate people, roadways, and vehicles into the whole system using telecommunication technology. The system enables people, including the elderly and the disabled, to utilize advanced roadway systems more efficiently, easily, and in more comfortable ways. The purpose of the system is to pursue the harmonious realization of transportation in safe, efficient, and smooth fashion. The Ministry of Construction declares six items as purposes and promotes aggressively the following system projects: vehicle information and communication system (VICS), electronic toll collection system (ETC), and automatic highway system (AHS). This paper gives an overview of the intelligent transportation system by the Ministry of Construction and discusses the system of the future.
