THE STATE ROLE IN SPENT FUEL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY
This report provides information to legislators and interested citizens as they evaluate the safety of spent fuel transportation. The report gives a brief history of spent fuel transportation, and an overview of the federal regulatory structure, and describes the steps states have taken to ensure the safety of spent fuel shipments, including permits, inspection and enforcement, notification, emergency response, routing and liability. Implicit in the report are additional activities states might find useful in furthering public safety, if shipments increase during the next several years.
