COMMUNICATIONS SOLUTIONS FOR NEAR TERM, WIRELINE-BASED, INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM USER SERVICES
This paper illustrates communications solutions that support 6 ITS User Services using Local Exchange Carrier broadband and narrowband network services. Traffic Control, Incident Management, Traveler Information Services, Pre-Trip Travel Information, Electronic Payment Services, and Public Travel Security User Services were chosen because they rely, at least in part, on wireline communications and can be implemented in the relative near term. in cases where a User Service Utilizes both wireline and wireless services, only the wireline service needs are addressed. A scenario is developed for each User Service which provides an application analysis and example of how the service might work including a diagram and description of the communicating entities, equipment required, network interfaces, and communications services.
