AN ASSESSMENT OF MOTOR CARRIER ADOPTION, USE, AND SATISFACTION WITH EDI
Electronic data interchange (EDI) plays an important role in supply chain management. EDI is defined as the direct computer-to-computer communication of business documents and information in a machine readable, structured format that permits data to be processed by the receiver without rekeying. As key members of the supply chain, motor carriers may be expected both to provide and benefit from EDI with their customers (i.e., shippers). Specifically, this study examines the current level of adoption and diffusion of EDI, the impacts of EDI on carrier productivity and customer service, and the impediments or challenges to the extension of EDI use in the future.
