OPERATION ISSUES FOR PARATRANSIT: PRODUCTIVITY, VEHICLES, DISPATCHING, MANAGEMENT--WORKSHOP 5

This effort to examine the existing and new ways of provision of paratransit service, particularly the coordination of complementary services to improve the overall levels of service and productivity, outlined 3 major areas (costs, financial considerations, and problem resolution), and amplified 2 major areas: cost reductions (vehicles, labor, organizational structure) and increased productivity. Recommendations are presented related to the following issues: reporting costs and operating statistics; dissemination of information to taxi operators and paratransit organizations; consumer information system; personnel training programs; and ways of reducing costs and increasing productivity.
