USE OF NONDESTRUCTIVE METHODS FOR BRIDGE AUSCULTATION IN SPAIN

The final goal of an auscultation process is to know if the bridge retains, in the moment when the analysis is done, its ability to bear loads with safety and functionality. This paper considers the terminology NDT (non-destructive testing) in a wide sense, it means that the author not only includes the usual methods for obtaining physical or mechanical properties of materials, but also he refers to other testing methodologies, such as load tests or dynamical testing, that give valuable information regarding the structural behavior of the bridge, usually necessary for the assessment of the structure.
