LOW-SMOKE, HIGH-PERFORMANCE DIESEL FUEL

This article shows how Engelhard's GPX Diesel-4 coatings and CCX diesel oxidation catalyst can reduce diesel emissions and promote improved combustion efficiency. Diesel-4 is a ceramic surface treatment, which is applied to combustion-area engine components, such as piston crowns, valves, and cylinder head. In certified tests in the USA, the coatings have been proved to reduce black smoke in diesel emissions by 50% to 90%. GPX coatings also reduce the emission of nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons. This effect can be dramatically enhanced when the coatings are used in combination with CCX. Other advantages of the GPX coatings treatment are: (1) the simplicity of its concept and operation; (2) increased fuel economy; (3) reduced lubricating oil consumption; (4) higher power and responsiveness; and (5) less loading on the cooling system. With GPX coating and CCX catalyst technologies used separately or in combination, heavy diesel engine users have the opportunity to select the emission solution that best meets their needs.
