This issue of Current Topics in Transport includes over 60 abstracts of some of the published literature (reports, conference papers, books and journal articles) on the growth of high-speed rail transport as a long-distance transport mode in many parts of the world, and especially in Europe. Articles are included on the development of the European high-speed rail network, on the socio-economic impacts of high-speed rail transport and the planning, financing and marketing potential of this growing sector of the transport industry. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 1993 and 1995. Much of the relevant English language literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Road Research Documentation (IRRD) database. Articles added to the database between 1991 and 1993 are available in Current Topics in Transport CT24.
