PROMPT: FIELD TRIAL AND SIMULATION RESULTS OF BUS PRIORITY IN SCOOT

The PROMPT (Priority and Information in Public Transport) project was concerned with the development, implementation and evaluation of active public transport priority in modern traffic-responsive urban traffic control systems. This paper is concerned with the results of the simulation and field trial activities in PROMPT related to bus priority in SCOOT (Split Cycle and Offset Optimisation Technique). The SCOOT system is first outlined. The results of field trials in London are then discussed together with some results from Southampton. It was shown that appropriate strategies can provide significant benefits to buses with no significant impact on general traffic. For the covering abstract see IRRD 880251.
