USER NEEDS FOR AN AUTOMATED HIGHWAY SYSTEM

The National Automated Highway System Consortium (NAHSC) has identified 23 top level system objectives, user service requirements and design characteristics for an Automated Highway System. A user needs survey is being used to better understand the specific needs and priorities of the AHS stakeholder groups to ensure that the development and selection of AHS concepts meet the stakeholder's needs leading to national consensus. This paper presents the preliminary results from the user needs survey specifically addressing setting realistic system goals that meet stakeholder's expectations.
