POTENTIAL FIELD OPERATIONAL TEST PROJECTS FOR THE I-95 CORRIDOR COALITION'S CORRIDOR-WIDE SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM
Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) field operational tests (FOTs) provide a means to evaluate the utility and merit of technologies and services in a real-world setting, so as to bridge the gap between research and development, and the deployment of proven technologies. To fulfill this purpose for the I-95 Corridor Coalition's Corridor-wide surveillance system, potential FOTs must aim at satisfying the functional requirements of the intended ITS services on the one hand, and meeting the organizational needs and vision of the Coalition member agencies on the other. The latter is critical to preserve and enhance the partnership and the cooperative framework fostered by the Coalition, and to reinforce other ITS projects being undertaken or planned by the Coalition. An approach to developing potential FOT projects that meet these criteria is described in this paper. Also, a description of nine potential FOT projects is provided.
