HIGH SPENDING PLANS MET BY PRIVATE SECTOR

Faced with airport expenditure in excess of $20 billion over the next 10 years, governments in South East Asia are adding private investors to their spending plans. Brand new sites under development in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia have attracted public and private interest, and include ambitious commercial targets. In the case of Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok, independent airport companies have been set up by government to bridge the gap between government and private interests. While government is working hard to keep some vestige of majority ownership, the private sector is making steady inroads in the airport sector.
