IMPROVEMENT IN THE EFFECT OF DRAINAGE ASPHALT ROAD SURFACE ON NOISE REDUCTION

In this report, the relationship between noise reduction and the thickness and aggregate size of the drainage asphalt road surface is examined. Earlier results indicated overall noise reductions of 3-5 dB. However, noise reductions of 5-10 dB are necessary to improve the urban roadside areas of Japan. In this paper, the structural development of the drainage asphalt road surface in order to improve the effect on noise reduction is reported. It is concluded that the diameter of the aggregate is more important than the thickness of road surface.
