IMMEDIATE COST-EFFECTIVE ABATEMENT OF WATER POLLUTION FROM NAVY SHIPS

The report is concerned with sewage treatment and oil pollution control on Navy ships. Various related areas were also studied. The topics presented include the following: Shipboard control of wastes; Toxicity and spreading of oil in seawater; The vertical movement of oil in seawater and the aging of oil slicks; Characterization and treatment of bilge and ballast water; Oil spill characteristics and statistics; Reduction of oil spills during shipboard fuel movement evolutions; Analysis of the effects on oil spills of fuel policy changes; The containment and recovery of Navy oil spills - a financial analysis; Location and equipment for oil recovery teams in San Diego; The shipboard sewage transfer assembly.
