STRATEGIES FOR AN EFFECTIVE NATIONAL TRAFFIC SAFETY POLICY
This paper outlines the historical development of traffic safety policies. It illustrates the need for a comprehensive, science-based approach, with proper structuring of priorities and the need to evaluate the actual, real world consequences of countermeasures. Suggestions are made for more involvement of the private sector at both national and international levels, with particular emphasis being put on the greater contribution to policy formation by the health sector. An international traffic safety foundation is proposed as a means of furthering international co-operation at the private sector level. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 880121.
