A PRACTICAL METHOD TO DETERMINE THE FATIGUE CHARACTERISTICS OF ASPHALT CONCRETE
Fatigue cracking is an important type of damage in Dutch asphalt pavements. Thus it is important to have information on the fatigue characteristics of asphalt concrete. Since fatigue damage is related to load repetitions, experiments to determine the fatigue characteristics of asphalt mixes are usually based on a large number of load repetitions. A disadvantage of these fatigue tests is that they are rather time consuming. Hence, they are not suited for practical use. In this project it has been investigated whether it is possible to determine the fatigue characteristics by means of more simple tests, namely frequency sweep tests and direct tensile tests.
