A MODEL - TRAFFIC SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM DESIGNED TO REDUCE TRAFFIC CRASHES AND FATALITIES IN NEW URBAN AREA - OAKLAND COUNTY, MICHIGAN, USA
This paper describes one model of an effective traffic safety management system. It is directed by TIA (Traffic Improvement Association), a 28-year-old, public-private, non-profit, organization that has been successful in leading the traffic safety efforts in fast growing urban area - Oakland County, Michigan, U.S. With a growing need to reduce congestion, TIA will increase its mission to address transportation mobility issues facing citizens today. The stunning traffic safety improvements over the years accentuate just how much can be accomplished when public and private sectors work together, and community officials put aside politics and "turf wars" to work cooperatively toward essential common goals.
