HOW YOU CAN IMPROVE CONCRETE DURABILITY

The Federal Highway Administration's pilot showcase workshop on concrete durability, held in Virginia, gave engineers, and technicians an opportunity to learn more about the variables affecting durability of concrete pavements and structures. The two-day workshop, presented by Construction Technologies Laboratories under a contract with the FHWA, stressed the important role permeability plays in concrete durability and introduced devices and procedures for evaluating concrete durability developed under the Strategic Highway Research Program. The workshop focused on five topics: permeability, freeze-thaw resistance, quality control, non-destructive testing, and expert systems.
