THE CASE FOR ROUTE STUDIES IN ACCIDENT ANALYSIS INVESTIGATIONS
This paper is based on the experience of two London-based case studies where the methodology employed resulted in the reduction of over 35 percent of road traffic accidents in the first year since implementation of the proposals specified in the first study and where similar reductions are expected when implementation is completed of the measures specified in the second study. This methodology has the potential for application in both large and small world cities. The paper includes an assessment of techniques that have now been developed for this work. Reference is made to two studies: the first A1 Holloway Road in the London Borough of Islington and A4 Great West Road in the London borough of Hounslow.
