PROPOSALS FOR AN ACCESSIBILITY POLICY ON SNCF

This paper outlines the study undertaken by French Railways which examined accessibility for disabled and other mobility impaired people nationally and internationally. Developments which have taken place in France since July 1993 and those proposed for the future are discussed. These include improved information for the disabled, more user-friendly windows, counters, platforms and toilets and specially equipped cars available at stations. Facilities in Paris include induction loops for the hearing-impaired and platform-edge markings. On the main-line network platforms are being raised, wheelchairs made available and staff made available to help the disabled. Other organisations involved are listed. For the covering abstract see IRRD 878000.
