MOBILITY AND THE 'FLEXOCIETY'

In today's modern society, change is the only constant, and the best response is flexibility. In such a 'flexociety', information and mobility are essential, and traffic management has a key role here. This article presents the integrated approach to these challenges of the Dutch company Nederland Haarlem (NH), which has already successfully implemented traffic management systems at various places, to handle congestion and traffic jams. Its modular products are: (1) CrossMan, combining technology and safety to manage intersections with conflicting traffic flows; (2) RoadMan, to manage traffic flows on predetermined routes; (3) ParkMan, to reduce parking problems, especially in urban areas; (4) TravelMan, to manage a variety of public transport and dynamic passenger information systems; and (5) HelpMan, to support emergency services in various ways. These products are all based on the same UNIC concept for managing mobility, which incorporates two platforms: NeMic, for management at local levels, and INCA, for integrated management at a central level.
