STRUCTURE SCHEME TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORT (SVV) STAD STIMULATES SUSTAINABLE URBAN TRAFFIC
STRUCTUURSCHEMA VERKEER EN VERVOER (SVV) STAD STIMULEERT DUURZAAM STEDELIJK VERKEER
The Stucture Scheme Traffic and Transport (SVV) Stad stimulates municipalities to contribute to a sustainable managed city by urban traffic policy making. For this purpose, a knowledge development programme has been established to which municipalities and the national governemnt both are contributing. The primary aim is the creation of that knowledge that will contribute to a sustainable urban traffic system. Important themes include: (1) the quality of the planning process; (2) the financing of traffic policy; (3) the winning of social acceptance; (4) the control of traffic flows; (5) coordinating traffic and urban planning; (6) the role of urban public transport; and (7) the interaction between traffic and the urban community. Many benefits can be gained by involving traffic planners from the beginning in the design of the main urban structures and the layout proposal as early as possible. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 876637.
