LANDSLIDES: INVESTIGATION AND MITIGATION. CHAPTER 18 - STABILIZATION OF ROCK SLOPES

The subject is this chapter is the stabilization of rock slopes. The chapter begins with a discussion of the effect of rock falls on transportation systems and the causes of rock falls. The next section addresses the planning of slope stabilization programs. Methods of stabilization of rock slopes are then discussed. These fall into one of two categories: rock reinforcement or rock removal. The final two sections are devoted to a discussion of protection measures against rock falls and contracting procedures.
