RADIO FREQUENCY IDENTIFICATION TAGGING FOR PROFIT AND CONTROL

Radio frequency identification (RFID) is now proving to be a viable, cost effective alternative to conventional identification systems where environmental constraints, speed of reading, distance or information requirements preclude the use of a simple barcode or swipe card. In this paper the author outlines some of the areas where RFID is proving to be the technology of choice, and some of the reasons this is so. In transport systems of the future it will be necessary to monitor all vehicles closely, whether to impose a road toll, enforce load limitations or charge for access to the CB. This paper highlights some of the technology options available. (a) For the covering entry of this conference, see IRRD abstract 868345.
